Sean Shevlino and Mike Anthony had every opportunity to succeed: loving parents, good homes, strong schools and the natural ability to play sports. But a series of bad decisions in the summer of 2006 changed the course of their lives.
In a matter of days, the two Wando High School students and a group of friends robbed a store at gunpoint. Sean and Mike then continued with the theft of a car and another robbery.
Now, as many in their graduating class prepare to head for college, Sean and Mike wait to see which state prison will be their home for the next 10 years.
How did this happen?
Heart-breaking. We were not the best parents by a long shot, but prayed for our kids without fail every day. I thank God for the miracle of our children not getting into trouble. I have a nephew, one of my brother’s sons, who had a life turn out badly like this story. How can it be, when a mom and a dad raise children, that one or maybe two will go astray and the others live good and wholesome family lives? From what I hear and read and see first hand, drugs are always involved. One of my brothers got on the wrong side of the law as a late teen, and he was able to joing the military and eventually made a good life. Is that still an option?
