I read the ENS article. Curry talks “Jesus” a lot, which is an improvement over Jefferts Schori for sure, and if he backed off the litigation he’d do the church a big favor. Not likely, if you ask me. According to what I heard at the time, here in Raleigh a charismatic congregation some years ago bought an office building and made it into a church, and apparently the mortgage was too much for them. This seems to have been really true. They told Bishop Curry, and he authorized them to sell the building. All according to the rules. They sold it to someone who leased it back to them, and then they left ECUSA. Nothing the bishop could do, and he was reportedly furious. No other congregations dare to try something like that. Pay the assessment or be demoted to mission status is the rule.
His motto, which according to ENS he is repeating as PB-elect, has been “living into God’s dream.” Very focused on “advocacy” and very pro “gay rights.”

It will be really interesting to see whether this makes the slightest difference. Apparently he strongly believes in gay marriage and in law suits, so the major dynamics will continue.
He should be able to slow the decline of TEC membership down to 3 or 4% per year.
A smooth operator, and an excellent preacher. It will be interesting to see whether he backs off of the mindless, endless litigation.
I was saddened to see George Conger refer to +Curry as an “evangelical” in his article today for Anglican Ink. Not really.
Curry voted against core doctrine & authority of Scripture at GC2003 (resolution B001)
Curry voted to affirm consent of VGR in 2003
Curry voted to authorize development of SSB liturgies at GC 2009, and allowed them in North Carolina many years before that.

Eh. The latest president of a certain far left social club. Moving on…
