    Sounds straightforward. But what if the debate got complicated? Doctrine can do that. What if we ran out of time before I got my way?

    No, better to grab now and debate later. If we have to. You see, if we’ve already won, we can call our opponents sore losers, democracy-deniers, polity-preventers (you get the idea) and spend that much less time discussing the substance of doctrine. If we ever have to at all.
