Nothing new, and it’s in the contract when you join. Has been for ages. I first heard about it from my dad in the 80’s when there was some talk of using it to maintain manning during the Reagan build up.
It’s called “Needs and exigencies of the Service,” and is used by all branches of the Armed Forces. Been there and done that……on my first overseas tour of duty……and stayed in.
Hey, we knew the job was dangerous when we took it.
I REALLY was expecting to retire in a few more quiet years in August 2001. Ha ha.
I’m expecting to STAY retired now. But that’s not guaranteed either. Admiral Bulkeley was President of the Board of Inspection and Survey for many years, on recall orders from the Retired Reserve.
Once again a biased media will used inflammatory language on policy that has been in force for decades. As noted, this is nohting new, except to the ignorant reporter. I am a retired regular military officer. My discharge certificate (DD Form 214) states, “Subject to Recall. Folks need to remember that “Peace Dividend” so widely applauded by the Dems when the Cold War ended, reduced the military between 30 – 50% in some areas. The high rotation rates and stop-loss program in use now is a direct result of that. You can’t have it both ways.
Wonder how long it took to find two complaining soldiers? My son was stop-loss ed during Iraqi Freedom operation. His 6 month tour ended up being 10 months. Had it not been for an immediate redeployment to Okinawa, he probably would have stayed in the Marines.
God bless our troops who protect us. Let the whiners cease!
God’s peace,
Barry
Posted my response to this on the wrong thread…..so will keep it short…..this is disgusting….this is not the Revolution, Civil War, or WWII…..
