The Episcopal Church has expanded its lawsuit against a deposed bishop who led a secession movement prompted by the church’s ordination of women and gays.
Church officials say in court documents that John-David Schofield attempted to transfer titles to at least three parishes worth several million dollars to an outside holding company he formed in April.
Why not?
He is the diocesan and the chief executive officer of the Anglican Diocese of San Jaoquin. It is his responsibility to protect the assets of the diocese against interlopers.
“Read it all” in this case amounts to only five sentences. This mini-story tells us vey little indeed, and it appears to reflect a strong liberal bias reflecting only one side of this dispute, the TEC side. Perhaps One Day Closer or Cennydd or someone else from San Joaquin will weigh in soon and provide a bit more context.

As the “story” is most likely copied straight from a TEC press statement the “slant” should be of little surprise to anyone.

The non-story behind the story is found here. An account already with Merrill Lynch had its name of the account changed. No nefarious transferring of funds.
The rogue vichy diocese has but two weeks to prove ownership or the transfer goes through. Perhaps the author of this slanted article was also given a Lambeth vacation to write such a weak article.
Intercessor
David Handy+, I was a delegate to both conventions, and I voted “YES” on the resolution deleting the Accession Clause from our constitution and for the move to the Province of the Southern Cone.
Without going into a lot of detail……which I’m not going to do…..I can say that everything in the letter responding to the accusations against our bishop are true. If you need any further explanation, may I suggest that you contact our diocesan office?
[blockquote]A spokeswoman for the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin had erroneously reported late Tuesday that Schofield had transferred church money to outside accounts.[/blockquote]
Well that above says volumes to me!

Cennydd (#6) and ODC (#7),
Thanks for chiming in, as I hoped you would. Personally, I had no doubts about the propriety of +Schofield’s actions. I was just hoping for someone from within the diocese to help set the record straight.

#8 David Handy+ ,
At this point I know that Merrill Lynch has frozen the accounts! No one is getting at them until the courts rule. I read somewhere (can’t remember) that the Remain Episcopal camp has until the 18th of June to get their arguments together for the court. I really think that Fr. Van McCalister has given a great summary of details that he able to at this point so as not to give the baby and all the shower gifts away to the other side. Giving too much information out is like showing all your cards to your oposition. Not a smart thing to do…:)
There’s an old saying which says “Don’t telegraph your moves to your opponent,” and I think that this was a prudent move on our part. Now, +Lamb and his friend Kate might call this move sneaky and underhanded, but y’know, that’s tough: we did it, and I’m sure we’ll make no apologies for having made a smart decision.
“Bishop John David Schofield is Alleged to Have Transferred Titles”
Bp. Schofield is acting just as though the property of his diocese belonged to his diocese. Imagine that!
It does!
