Yes, read it all. The Bishop of London is not pulling punches.

  2. Brian from T19 says:

Yes-no punches pulled. Just like Windsor. Just like Dromatine. Results will be the same too. I wonder if ++Katharine wrote a note saying that we can all disagree, but “General Convention has not authorized these blessings” if that would be enough for the GS?

    Brian,

Don’t you think it’s a little disingenuous to compare the actions and results in response to an event that took place less than three weeks ago with the actions taken over a five-year period?

The Bp. makes it clear that neither homophobia nor same-sex weddings are appropriate in the Church of England. He’s made it clear that priests are ministers of the Church of England and subject to her discipline. He’s made it clear that Dr. Dudley is reported to have violated those standards and is flaunting his disobedience to his bishop. And yet the letter is not reactionary nor polemical, and is gracious enough to seek clarification or justification.

Perhaps it would be prudent to allow a bit more time to elapse before judging the bishop’s response?

Unless I miss my guess, BfT19 was comparing todays haute words with prior haute words, which, like haute cuisine, are deconstructed. The analogy fails in that the ingredients remain identifiable while the words do not. Alas, such is metaphor!

I despair of conversations on this, since we have all staked out postitions that seem immovable.

Having said that, I checked out Great St Bart’s website, and it appears the good Bishop paid his episcopal visit at the end of April.

Which gives him all the more reason to really be incensed, given that this is the kind of thing that really ought to have been brought up. Pardon the pun.

Time to dump the TEC, ACC, CoE, CoScot, & all associates in apostasy and heresy. A new communion must emerge leaving these to their ultimate judgement. God have mercy!

Brian’s right…when all is said and done, Martin Dudley will be rector at St. Bart’s and doing what he damn well pleases. The CoE might as well embrace sodomy as a sacrament, they’re going to get it by the drink anyway.

It reminds me of a story about the Stoics I read in a Tom Wolfe novel. A wealthy man came to one of the Stoics and said he had been offered a large amount of money to do some public, degrading thing and wanted to know if he should. “Yes,” came the reply. Shocked by the immediacy and finality of the answer, the man asked the Stoic why. “Because you have considered it.”

What will this do to interfaith relations in GB, one wonders.

Of course, it doesn’t matter since Sharia accomodations haven’t some on line … yet.

Heresy! Apostasy! Outrage! and… finally… (grace a Jeffersonian) sodomy! Dear me, the sky is falling! Love is celebrated and it’s raining tears of joy.
