Progressive Episcopalians of Pittsburgh has issued a press release with their reaction to today’s news from the HOB re: the supposed deposition of Bishop Duncan. The following section caught this elf’s eye:
Now that the House of Bishops has acted, the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh needs to find a way to move forward gracefully and productively. By canon, the Standing Committee is now the ecclesiastical authority for the diocese. We pray that its members will exercise wisdom in a spirit of love and reconciliation and will reconsider the divisive course set for our upcoming diocesan convention. It is within their power to begin to heal this troubled diocese.
Their statement reminds me entirely too much of the comments made by myself and my siblings when young. “Yes, I pinched you, but you’re a better person than I am so I know you won’t pinch me back.”
I hope that the Standing Committee does minister to their fallen brethren. But a small part of me hopes for the hammer. Just a small part, but it’s there.
Forgive me for being cynical, but I wonder how long PEP’s recognition of the Pittsburgh Standing Committee and their following of this canon will continue. Me thinks not too long, sadly.
I don’t know if I will ever again visit Pittsburgh and I don’t know if I will ever meet a member of the Progressive Episcopalians of Pittsburgh, but if I do meet such a person, I will SHUN that person as a person who has maliciously attacked and undermined his/her bishop.

PPEP = Patron of PEP
yes #2, why did they bother to say that about the SC? they obviously need to have them removed in order to have Pitt. stay in ECUSA. and they don’t have much time until the 10/4 vote – how can they do anything so quickly? my guess is they will be going to court with some flim flam injunction request.
for such a seemingly intelligent person, this Dr. Gunderson is really acting shamefully. but then character and intelligence can be mutually exclusive (see: Bill Clinton).
“Progressive Episcopalians of Pittsburgh regrets that events have caused the House of Bishops to consent to the deposition of Bishop of Pittsburgh Robert W. Duncan.”
As those who initially went to the Title IV committee to campaign for this deposition, precisely what is it that they regret? I cannot imagine a more profoundly disingenous and self serving pronouncement. The only thing more shameful than their actions is the implied disavowal of responsibility. God have mercy on their souls.
“Of course, you know this means war” should be the response.

(10 yr veteran of the Navy just so you have an idea for the flavor of what I’d like to post.)
These are the people who took their bishop to court. When are the counter suits to be filed? If the Presiding Bishop and the House of Bishops acted outside their own canons, would there not be some sort of civil action to take against them?

Crocodile tears. Will these tender-hearted PEPpers stand and object when Darth Schori disbands the current Standing Committee and replaces it her handpicked, compliant stooges? When pigs fly.
What an amusing, self-serving statement, from a bunch of folks who wouldn’t know about moving “gracefully” or “a spirit of love and reconciliation” or “healing” to save their lives.
It’s as ironic as flowers presented by a wife-beater . . .
“Now that I, your husband, have spoken, my wife needs to find a way to move forward gracefully and productively. I pray that my wife will exercise wisdom in a spirit of love and reconciliation and will reconsider the divisive course she set for our marriage. It is within her power to begin to heal this troubled relationship.”
Makes me smile to read that section.
Why would these people care about “grace”? What is theologically or physically “graceful” about two men sodomizing each other?
“…the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh needs to find a way to move forward gracefully and productively”.
Yup, all 21 of you once realignment has taken place.
