(ACNS) Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and Dr Hellen Wangusa, Anglican Observer at the United Nations, cordially invite you to attend An Interfaith Service of Recommitment and Witness to the Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
Presiding Bishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church The Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, Officiant.
The Archbishop of York The Most Honorable Dr. John Sentamu, Guest Preacher.
This service is part of the high-level event on the Millennium Development Goals taking place at United Nations Headquarters in New York City on September 25, 2008. At the halfway point towards the target date, significant progress has been made, but urgent and increased efforts are needed by all stakeholders in order to meet the goals by 2015. Convened by the United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the event will be a forum for world leaders to review progress, identify gaps, and commit to concrete efforts, resources and mechanisms to bridge the gaps.
If the ABC had any, um, intestinal fortitude, he’d tell Katie to take a hike; that the new officiant would be Bp. Duncan.

Is this satire?
Straight in, feet first.
#3 – Definitely not satire. It’s the real deal.

Why do Anglicans need MDGs?
Why can’t Anglicans use their own traditional ministeries to do an even better job pursuing their own international ministery goals with their own monies and let the secular and non-Chrisitian, often anti-Chrisitian, United Nations go about its own MDGs?
When will liberal Anglican leaders acknowedge the fact that that there are few real democracies and many many oppressive non-democratic governments in the United Nations?
When will liberal Anglicans own up to the fact that MDG monies funneled to oppressive regimes end up in the pockets of oppressive dictators?
The best way to ensure that aid to poor countries reaches the individuals WHO REALLY NEED IT is to provide the money directly to those individuals under the auspices of church agencies.
Those who have not actually spent time in poor countries, I have, are not qualified to answer these questions.
Why do Anglicans need MDGs? Why, to show the ‘real world’ that we are relevent to today’s society, of course.
Is Bishop Duncan invited?
All glory, laud and honor
Unto the MDGs!
For which 0.7%
Goes to its lobbies!
Typical ECUSA/TEC/GCC/EO-PAC sacrifice for the poor.
See the chan(g)e(d) letter here for further clarifications:

I suspect that Rowan is there at the request/invitation of KJS.
Off topic: Read this morning that Obama wants to increase UN power!!!
I just followed the link Charles posted. Sentamu and KJS are listed but no ABC. I don’t particularly care for the man’s leadership, but let’s not waste a thread ridiculing him for something that he isn’t doing.
Sorry the wording on that is indeed awkward. We need to spend time dealing with the things he is not doing, but his not doing this is a complete waste of time
Never mind. It doesn’t appear he will be present.
As I said on another thread. I have written to ABp Sentamu asking him to reconsider. He may be contacted here:

Gee. I wonder if the MDG money will help fund more porno flicks being made by U.N. peacekeepers (see article here).
I marvel at how funneling money to a corrupt and morally bankrupt organization can make liberals feel so good about themselves, when most of the money goes to dictators and petty bureaucrats, instead of the people it is supposed to help.
Can’t I just send Bob Mugabe a twenty and be done with it?
If a single Orthodox hierarch shows up for this I will be extremely disappointed.
