Montreal's top Anglican stands behind gay unions

The head of Montreal’s Anglican church plans to bless same-sex unions despite a suggested two-year moratorium following a meeting of Canada’s Anglican bishops.

Rt. Rev. Barry Clarke, head of the Anglican Diocese of Montreal, which includes 72 parishes and 110 congregations, said last night he will meet with diocese officials to develop “a protocol and a liturgy implementing the blessing of same-sex unions.”

The bishop said he will be respectful of the range of positions in his diocese regarding unions, including “those who disagree with it.”

Shame! Anathema! The ACoC has become an instrument of evil and death.

No respect for the Communion, the ABC, the Instrument, the ACoC, the Canadian House of Bishops. Not much chance of him obeying Christ either I suppose. Why is he a bishop?

I have to say I am puzzled having read the article on T19 above this where this is reported:
“Bishops Clarke and Chapman underscored that they have not yet given clergy permission to bless same-sex unions. “I think that tends to be forgotten. There’s nowhere that anyone is permitted to bless same-sex marriages. We may be talking about it, my desire is to put the process moving in that direction but nothing has happened,” said Bishop Clarke in an interview.

Bishop Clarke acknowledged, however, that he is “not sure” if he can manage to hold the moratorium, as affirmed by the other bishops, until the 2010 meeting of General Synod, the church’s governing body.”

I don’t understand how what +Clarke says above is consistent with “he will meet with diocese officials to develop “a protocol and a liturgy implementing the blessing of same-sex unions” unless he has learned to speak out of both sides of his mouth.

It is not hard to speak thus,#3, if you are two faced. L

Time for Canterbury to snap into action and appoint a committee to study the possibility of forming a commission that will look at the feasibility of developing plans for a panel of reference that will generate recommendations for putting in place a covenant that will be altogether ignored by the offending Provinces.

That ought to keep a few hundred otherwise-unemployable church bureaucrats off the streets for a decade or two.
