Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the Guardian has learned.
Obama’s advisers have begun looking into Bill Clinton’s foundation, which distributes millions of dollars to Africa to help with development, to ensure that there is no conflict of interest. But Democrats do not believe that the vetting is likely to be a problem.
Clinton would be well placed to become the country’s dominant voice in foreign affairs, replacing Condoleezza Rice. Since being elected senator for New York, she has specialised in foreign affairs and defence. Although she supported the war in Iraq, she and Obama basically agree on a withdrawal of American troops.
I think this is premature. None of the American news services have reported a firm job offer. Of course if the Guardian got it right its a great scoop.

And for the next senator from New York, how about . . . Bill Clinton!
If the Guardian has it right, then Hilary’s ardent supporters within the Democratic Party will drift away and she will never again have a chance of being nominated for the Presidency. This ought to be a relief for many in both parties.
If Bill Clinton took the Senator’s spot, he’d have to give up his lifestyle, but also some of the connections which might cause trouble from his foundation. Investor’s Business Daily gives an even analysis of the Hillary Clinton proposal. Obama could do much worse for Secretary of State.
If HRC does become Secretary of State in an Obama administration, it will be more example of the new President’s reliance on the personnel developed initially by WJ Clinton and his staff during his presidency. Which might disappoint the obamanistas, but should reassure the rest of us. For all their flaws, the Clintons (and those who were in their wake), had a realistic view of the world. Or, as someone (I think it was Nebraska’s Bob Kerrey) said of Bill Clinton — “He’s not a liberal, he’s an unprincipled opportunist.”
Given the alternative of an ideological administration, with an ideological leadership in Congress, we could do worse (and yes, I’m a little cynical).
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. It’s always been true in politics.

Hilary is not Bill.
Ah. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for! Good to see that change is happening in the new administration.
She covered up for Bill, so she will be good at covering up for obama. Good pick big o.
