Cathedral attendance figures rose for the fifth year in succession in 2025 and rebounded consistently after the Covid pandemic.
Attendance overall remained lower than in 2019, but Easter attendance drew level with pre-pandemic figures for the first time.
A total of 32,600 people attended weekly services at Church of England cathedrals in 2025, as opposed to 36,800 in 2019. Sunday attendance was up among adults in 2025 — eight per cent higher than in 2024, when weekly attendance had risen by one tenth (News, 5 September, 2025).
Christmas attendance in 2025 was up by six per cent, and there was a five-per-cent rise in Easter attendance. But child mid-week attendance was still 38 per cent lower in 2025 than in 2019.
