Conservative Anglicans say they do not expect their new North American church to receive official approval from Anglican archbishops who will convene next week (Feb. 1-5) in Alexandria, Egypt.
“We do expect that our situation will be discussed,” said the Rev.
Peter Frank, a spokesman for the newly established Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). “At the same time, it would be very surprising if there was some kind of quick, game-changing action.”
After years of disagreeing with the liberal majorities in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada, conservatives broke off and formed a rival church last December. Conservatives hope the fledgling province will ultimately be recognized as the official Anglican franchise in North America.
Prayers for the primates meeting can be found here.
Yes, prayer is our first recourse. But so will be honesty. Here there will be a serious problem in that the previous PB and the current PB have shown that this is a problem for them. Without trust and honesty, there is little chance of a positive outcome. Once you have lost trust as the current PB has with the Primates it is hard to regain it. This is her own fault. She has made the situation worse and will have to sow what she has reaped.
This New Province is result of the failed leadership of TEC.
With all due respect, Creighton+, I’d say it’s more than simply KJS’s actions which resulted in the need to bring the Anglican Church in North America into being. Rather, it’s the culmination of forty years of revisionism which concluded with her installation as “Presiding Bishop,” along with the refusal of those who were bent on the new course upon which the Episcopal Church has embarked….without ensuring that the wants and needs of the faithful were met, while at the same time trying to force them to accede to the innovations which were being imposed upon them.
“Formed a rival church” is precisely it. Thanks to RNS for getting that one right.
4, Susan, what is your point. Every church that is not TEC is a rival church in one way or another. It’s only a very small percentage, according to the PB. What are you worked up about?
Thank God RNS tells the truth unlike what revisionists like Susan Russell. What would have happened 40 years ago if Louie Crew, et al had actually told the truth and admitted that their agenda was to form a revisionist Church out of step with mainstream Christianity by withering away the patience and good will of PECUSA? They would have been scattered to the winds. But no. Crew, Russell, and others use traditionalists’ strengths are weaknesses. Patience and toleration worked against us because we continued to suffer under the deceit of the LGBT lobby of which Russell is the current mouthpiece. I’ll say good riddance to Russell’s nasty smirks when the ABC gets put in his place and Anglican Christianity gains root again in the U.S. Russell can have the decayed TEC and her next generation of followers can get stuck with the bills.
