It is on the Fifth Notice Paper, and reads as follows:
Anglican Church in North America
Mrs Lorna Ashworth (Chichester) to move:‘That this Synod express the desire that the Church of England be in communion with the Anglican Church in North America.’
(Hat tip: Simon Sarmiento)
Good.
Yes.
Note that it does not reference or discipline TEC; it merely expresses a desire to be in communion with the people of the Anglican Church in North America. TEC, for its part, turns thing son their head, charging the ACNA with being “schismatic” and then seeking as punishment for them to be thrown out of the communion; while the supposedly “schismatic” ACNA wishes to remain Anglican. Synod is being presented a choice in this resolution – though I do not know where it is going – that they can commmunicate to the wider communion by rejecting it that they want the church to exclude everyone who does not agree with the revisions advocated by TEC, or by accepting it that they do they want a broader communion that allows the evangelicals and anglo catholics to remain. I suppose Bishop Wright sees this.
At the current time it isn’t before the Synod. At the urging of conservatives, the motion has been tabled for consideration by a committee, which will decide if it is to be included on the next Synod’s agenda
