USA Today–Poll: 57% don't see stimulus working

Six months after President Obama launched a $787 billion plan to right the nation’s economy, a majority of Americans think the avalanche of new federal aid has cost too much and done too little to end the recession.

A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll found 57% of adults say the stimulus package is having no impact on the economy or making it worse. Even more ””60% ”” doubt that the stimulus plan will help the economy in the years ahead, and only 18% say it has done anything to help improve their personal situation.

That skepticism underscores the challenge Obama faces in trying to convince the public that the stimulus has helped turn the economy around. It also could complicate the administration’s plans to overhaul the nation’s health care system.

I think the porkulus is working, just as it was intended (but not as it was advertised). Isn’t it funny that France and Germany are out of recession and we’re not?

  2. Capt. Father Warren says:

Central Government planning and spending does not create wealth. It redistributes it and picks winners and losers in ways that the economy itself is not driving toward. What would have really stimulated the economy is to put more money in Consumer’s pockets since statistically consumers drive 70% of the economy.

  3. Cole says:

57% polled? No problem. Just get the main stream media to report something different, distracting or confusing and let the winners eat their pork.

I would be very interested in learning from the 43% who think the stimulus is working on what facts they base their conclusions.

I will also be interested in learning how the current administration and Congress propose to dig us out of the massive debt the stimulus package has imposed upon us. If the answer is “no taxes on the middle class”, I want to know whether they matriculated at Hogwarts, Beaubatons, or Drangsturm.

Porkulus has not begun to work and personally I doubt it ever will. The economy runs in lag-time. We are still pretty much in the Bush economy. If (!) we have begun to emerge from the recession as some economists have announced it will be because the problems were never as deep and pervasive as we thought – not because Lord O saved us. In fact, the Obama economy still looms over us. The Porkulus deficits, compounded by Cap ‘n Trade with a coup de grace of Health Care Reform. We ain’t seen nuttin’ yet!

The stimulus sure seems to be working here in Los Banos. New construction going on, new businesses in town, homes are selling again. Yeah, I can see a difference!

#1 is right. The stimulus is working beautifully just as planned. I believe that the overall plan by the international money elite is a massive transfer of economic might from the west to the east (mainly China). The destruction of the American economy and that pesky American middle class who just will not lie down and roll over when they are being robbed of their freedom and wealth is a main goal in this plan and they are well on the way to achieving that goal.
