I remember John Smylie as a man devoted to Jesus after a strong conversion experience brought him suddenly to seminary. He was a talented musician and song writer. John loved to sing about his Lord Jesus, and we welcomed him to do so in my parish. He was in those days a profoundly Christian man with a heart for evangelism that stood out at the seminary we attended. He has my prayers for what this expansion of his ministry will call him to to be and do.
He was dean of the cathedral in Spokane at the time of Gene Robinson’s election. He spoke out against it, and was troubled by it. I don’t know whether his objection was a matter of principle or concern over timing. He is a very nice guy.

OK- so where does this guy fall on the liberal-conservative scale as compared to the other nominees and as compared to TEC as a whole?
He was ordained deacon and priest by Bishop Spong. Stay tunes. Statmann
