Baptist leader Richard Land backs citizenship for illegal immigrants

When Nashville’s Richard Land talks to Hispanic Southern Baptists this month, he’ll tell them the denomination supports establishing a path to U.S. citizenship for illegal immigrants.

After borders are secure, he’ll say, there needs to be a way for them to pay back taxes, take a civics course and get in line with others seeking legal status.

Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, admits it’s a message that will test some of the church’s mainstream membership, but it’s one that needs to be said.

“It’s love your neighbor, do unto others,” Land said. “This is a kingdom issue. They are disproportionately suffering because they are forced to remain in the shadows because of their illegal status.”

Read it all.

I think the key phrase here should be “Stand in line and wait your turn.” Just like my great grandparents did.

    #1 THANK YOU!!!

My dad has remarried and he married a Phillippino woman (and she is a really lovely person, by the way) and they have spent THOUSANDS of dollars and have done reams of paperwork and she has to go to classes, etc. ad bureaucratic infinitum to become a US citizen.

I guess all she should have done is fly to Tijuana and walk across the border and she would have folks falling all over themselves to make her a citizen!!! Maybe if she stole a Social Security card and worked without paying taxes it might speed things up.

My co-worker is in the same position. His wife is also a Phillippino woman and they have had the same bureaucratic adventure.

Both of these ladies have passed nursing classes in the Philippines and are continuing their studies here in the US…exactly the sort of folks that we WANT to become Americans…yet because they did not come from Mexico or some other latin-American country, they are discriminated against.

Why do Latinos feel such a sense of entitlement? Why do they wave the Mexican flag in our faces while demanding the benefits of citizenship? Why should they get a free pass and jump ahead of all the folks that have things legally? Why does their criminal activity get rewarded? I am OUTRAGED by this lunacy!!! We need to finish building the border fence. Hey, there’s a SHOVEL READY JOB!!! FINISH THE FENCE!!! It’s time to put a stop to the job stealing, identity stealing, infrastructure abusing, criminals flaunting our laws and pushing past all the legal immigrants.

There are Mexican Americans in this country who think that every state west of the Mississippi is still Mexican territory which was seized illegally; ignoring the fact that virtually every country in Europe has a similar history of territorial expansion at the expense of others, and they want Mexico to somehow get it back.
