(LA Times) Egyptian Christian fatally shot, 5 wounded, aboard train

An off-duty policeman opened fire aboard a train Tuesday in southern Egypt, killing one Christian and wounding five less than two weeks after the New Year’s Day bombing at a church in Alexandria that killed 25 Coptic Christians, according to the state news agency.

There were few details on the incident and it was unclear whether the shooting was sectarian related. The state news agency, MENA, quoted an Interior Ministry official as saying a Muslim police officer boarded a Cairo-bound train in the town of Samalut in Minya province and began firing a handgun. The official said a 71-year-old Coptic man was killed and his wife and four other Christians ”” three women and a man ”” were wounded.

This must be Rush Limbaugh’s fault…or Michael Savage…etc. The tone of their rhetoric on their talk radio must have been too angry. Maybe it was the failure of their social services to adequately address the underlying mental health issues of the shooters. What ever the cause, you can be sure that the Liberal Left in the USA will try to profit politically from the tragic deaths of others.

Dear #1 – I’m very sorry, but please don’t make the tragedies happening to Christians in other parts of the world all about the USA. And please pray for peace in Egypt…emotions are running very high.

  3. Sick & Tired of Nuance says:

That is EXACTLY the point. This terrible evil that was done in Egypt has absolutely NOTHING to do with the USA. It would be absurd to try to link talk radio in the USA to these heinous murders in Egypt…just as it is absurd to try to link the murderous rampage of a lunatic in Arizona to the rhetoric of some radio pundits. Nevertheless, the radical Left politicians in the USA, with their lockstep Media toadies, are trying to push that absurdity and they are using the bodies of those murdered to try to further their agendas of gun control and the “Fairness Doctrine” (to silence political opposition). I do pray for peace in Egypt.

Almighty God, in whose eyes the death of thy saints is precious, hear their blood crying out loudly from the ground, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” As the cup of your wrath is being filled, Sovereign Lord, remember what was done to thy servants in Egypt. Thy will be done as you bring peace to Egypt, O Lord Jesus Christ, thou Lion of Judah!

TOTALLY agree #3. No doubt the left will make these persecutions of Christians about something other than what they really are. That is what they do. I also pray for these persecuted Christians around the world.

The initial reaction to the Tucson shootings was hasty and incorrect.
!. It is unwarrented to link political dialog with the acts of the man, who is clearly mad. (“disturbed” is too mild a term).
    2. That said however, there is need to do some serious reflection on the degree to which political dialog has degenerated. I question whether the tone of talk radio reflects the underlying anger in society, or foments it. The left cannot get off, either. The language coming from the left during the Bush presidency was equally alarming.

I agree with #2. This has nothing to do with events in the USA. Things are very tough for Christians in Egypt and elsewhere in the Middle East these days. Pray for them.

But, separately, #5, have you seen widespread images online and at demonstrations showing Barack Obama with a gun aimed at his head, Barack Obama decapitated, signs saying his mother should have aborted him, or movies and fiction depicting his assassination? If not, then I submit that the language coming from the left was MORE alarming than the current opposition to the Obama administration.

  7. Jeff Thimsen says:

Agreed, #6. And largely ignored in the press.
