Great Site for Gasoline Prices Nationwide in the U.S.

Check it out if you have not seen it. I had occasion to show it to a friend this morning who was moaning about the over 4 dollars he was paying in Connecticut, whereas whereas where I am in South Carolina we have the 3.30’s and 3.40’s/gallon–KSH.

The newly consecrated Bishop of Tabora in western Tanzania emailed me just today asking for prayer as he plans his mid-July Confirmation safaris. He says gasoline there is now 2,200 Tanzanian shillings per liter. My little brain estimates that to be about $5.22 per gallon.

In Europe they might be paying almost twice that, but it’s hard for any of us in Europe or the US to conceive of what it’s like to do what you have to do when cash is as scarce as it is in the Diocese of Tabora.

When gas was 90 cents a gallon back in 1996, I was in Haiti where it was over $3. The additional $2.10 went to Aristede and his cronies. When Aristede finally left Haiti, one of the poorest countries on earth, he was reportedly a billionaire. My guess is the same thing goes on in Tanzania. I believe there is a special place in hell for people like that.

David, “people like that” are now referred to as Environmentalists.

Can$1.24 per litre here in eastern Canada. At this moment that’s Can$4.69 or US$4.83 per US gallon.

Australian$1.46/litre x 4 = about A$5.84 per gallon (a tad less than 4 litres I think), x 1.07 US$/A$ makes our petrol at least US$6.20 a gallon, I think. Yet oddly enough I never think much about it! Some other things are really inexpensive here that are costly in the US. My husband drives across town (15km) to buy petrol at perhaps 0.20/litre off, though, just like his father does in the LA basin.

I’ve been paying $3.77 per gallon here in Los Banos, CA, and it’s predicted to go even lower. I think, though, that the price will rise again, so enjoy the lower prices while they last.
