Israelis Flee Cairo Embassy as Protesters Invade Offices

Israel sent a pair of military jets into Cairo at dawn on Saturday to evacuate its embassy staff after six members had been trapped in the embassy overnight by thousands of protesters who invaded the building and tossed documents from the windows.

As an angry mob stormed the embassy and tore down its flag for the second time in a month, Israel appealed to the United States for help. Coming a week after Turkey expelled Israel’s ambassador over its refusal to apologize for a deadly raid on a Turkish ship, the attack left Israel facing crises in relations with its two most important regional allies, and ambassadors in neither country.

The violence also raised concerns about whether Egypt’s military-led transitional government would be able to maintain law and order and meet its international obligations, and to what extent popular rage unleashed by the Arab Spring would send a chill over the region.

Unfortunately, I do not see Zero (who made a point of going around the world bowing and scraping to every Islamic dicator as soon as he became president) defending Israel.

    Every Arab dictator knows this.

I also do not see Zero defending Taiwan.

I grieve for Israel. Every evil epoch in the World’s history appears to begin with a pogrom against the Jews (usually accompanied by careful handwashing from those in the seat of power).

By not supporting the Israelis, this is going to come back and haunt Congress, and it will be all Obama’s fault. Guaranteed.

The only glimmer of hope I see is that the Egyptian military sent commandos who rescued the six trapped Israelis. After the elections, who knows who will be in charge and what insanity that new government might commit? Going to war with Israel is the single most stupid thing the Egyptians could do to themselves. I’d like to think the US would withdraw all aid in that case, but that may depend upon our elections.

I’m glad they were just “protesters”, you know, conducting a peaceful sit-in to demonstrate their valid concerns over Israeli oppression … [Sarcasm Off]. Clueless, we have friends who are from Israel, and they still have lots of family in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The Israelis are not pleased by Obama one bit. In the power games of the mid-east, they know that Obama’s lack of support = US won’t back Israel so open season on the Jews.

“In Texas,” I’m afraid it’s always “open season” on the Jews. I pray Psalm 94, and ask you to do the same!

Someone is oppressing the Palestinians. Could it be their occupiers? Is it the US Congress? Is it the US President? Who is it?

  7. Lutheran Visitor says:

Could it be their own so-called government(s)? Could it be their political and religious leaders, who seem more desirous of spewing hate and pressing for a return to 1947 that they KNOW cannot happen without the annihilation of Israel, rather than making a reasonable peace with Israel which would allow their people to get on with the economic rebuilding of the West Bank and Gaza?
Madeline Albright, no crazed pro-Israel fanatic by a long shot, said that at Camp David in 1999 (?), Yassir Arafat KNEW that he had been offered the best deal that the Palestinians would ever get from the State of Israel — the most concessions they could possibly make and still have any chance of defending their territory. He knew it and he rejected it anyway.
