President Obama’s signature health reform law will add as much as $527 billion to federal deficits over the next decade, not cut them as advertised, according to a report released Tuesday.
The Affordable Care Act will add as much as $1.2 trillion to federal spending between 2012 and 2021, the report also finds. Charles Blahous, who serves as one of Medicare’s trustees, wrote the report, published by George Mason University’s Mercatus Center.
1st Rule of Bureaucracy: Bureaucracy expands to meet the needs of expanding bureaucracy.
2nd Rule of Bureaucracy: Why have a bureaucracy that is ineffective and expensive, when you can have a bureaucracy that is even more expensive and ineffective?
Charles Blahous represents one view of ACA as it is understood from the Libertarian/Conservative perspective. I suspect that his perspective is more subjective than that of the CBO. His depiction seems to be based on a worst case scenario of higher increases in healthcare and higher than expected taxes and penalties.
Is there a place for government in providing healthcare for its citizens? Is there a bibilical and theological position from which to argue that Christians should work for healthcare for all? I believe the answer to these questions is “Yes.” I am not convinced that individualism is the way forward on all fronts.
Finally, Blahous is purported to be a member of the Society for American Baseball Research. He probably dashed off this article from the top of his head in order to watch the Yankees.
