(ENS) Global religious leaders call on G8 to ”˜strike at causes of poverty’

Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby are among 80 religious leaders who have written to the G8 heads of government urging them to keep promises on foreign aid and to “help to create an environment that encourages the conditions for inclusive, equitable and sustainable economic growth.”

    It is naive to give money to dictatorships and expect that it will be well spent. The people never see the money and they continue to hate us. The only way to give any real aid is to build the needed project directly.

    Wonder if they will strike at causes like tribalism, kleptocracy, authoritarian cultures, superstitious religions that enslave rather than empower…

    Nah, just demand that the cultures that have overcome or at least tempered those issues fork over more in redistribution to those who maintain the impoverishing status quo.
