Anglican priest ordained to Roman Catholic priesthood in Savannah

In a first for the Catholic Diocese of Savannah, Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer ordained an Anglican priest to the Catholic priesthood Wednesday.

The Rev. Lucien Lindsey was ordained a Catholic priest at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah and incardinated in the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.

The Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter is a structure, similar to a diocese, that was created by the Vatican in 2012 for former Anglican communities and clergy seeking to become Catholic.

  1. APB says:

Interesting story, though they are not sorting out the various shades of Anglicanism. Lindsey started as an Episcopal priest, but moved to the Continuing Churches fairly early. I knew him as Bishop Lindsey of the Episcopal Missionary Church, and Holy Cross Anglican Church in Franklin, TN. He was also the EMC’s bishop to their military chaplains. He left a few years ago, and seems to have either started or become involved with a group which was formed to become an Anglican Rite Catholic Church. I would be interested to know if someone local has more information on them.

My impression was that he was the best of the old school priests, and wish him well.
