I heard a rumor that the PB was invited, but declined to attend, due to “schedling conflicts” (Miami). Does anyone know if this is true? Who else from TEC was invited and declined/went? Why wasn’t the formal representative of our church at such a major event?
Bishop Schori was invited to the ecumenical prayer service at St. Joseph’s parish in New York, but declined to attend, citing a prior engagement, I think to dedicate a building in Salt Lake City. Bishop Sisk of New York was there, and was among a group of local church leaders presented to the pope at the end of the ceremony. I think the TEC ecumenical officer, or someone like that, was in attendance as well.

I cannot respond with certainty as to how Bishop Stanton received his invitation, but I do know that Laura Bush’s college roommate (whom is she still very close to) is a member of one of the larger Episcopal parishes in Dallas.
Well, let’s see if we can sort this out, montanan . . . the Holy Father and Bp Stanton both share a commitment to the unchanging Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Apostolic Faith. And KJS . . . ?
I left TEC for an Ugandan Anglican parish – which most of my TEC parish founded when we left. I have often thought how appealing the RCC is in many ways (though I cannot aquiesce enough to some of the doctrine to swim the Tiber) because of the reasserted faithfulness evident since B16’s predecessor cleaned up the bishops and seminaries. So I wonder for people like Bp. Stanton, who speaks so very warmly and admiringly of His Holiness B16, if there isn’t a pull that way, much as there apparently was/is for former Bps Herzog and Steenson. To be honest, I’ve wondered that with Rev. Dr. Harmon, given the warmth and extensiveness of his coverage of B16’s visit. (Kendall – I don’t write this to pry – just to state a pondering. Please do not feel compelled to respond.)

#1, I’m curious about that, too. I can’t help but think of this interview in the NYT a year and a half ago, and this question in particular:
Q: Have you met Pope Benedict?
A: I have not. I think it would be really interesting.
Oh well. Maybe next time…

Thank you +Stanton for letting us share in this wonderful occassion and thank you Dr. Harmon for making it available on T19.
I like the way Bp Stanton closed his description of
the event.

The BP has no time for quite a number of things.
I’m curious as to who was involved with the invitation to Bishop Stanton.

My goodness, Bp. Stanton certainly speaks very warmly and admiringly of The Pope. One wonders if he speaks in the same tone of the TEC PB.
