in England Women win right to children without fathers

Single women and lesbian couples won landmark parental rights last night as MPs voted to remove the requirement that fertility clinics consider a child’s need for a father.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill will replace the rule with a “need for supportive parenting” after opponents were defeated in two votes by unexpectedly wide margins.

The Government had been prepared for defeat but won the free votes by majorities of 75 and 68. The decisions mean that the legislation will grant the most significant extension to homosexual family rights since gay adoption was sanctioned.

It will stop fertility clinics turning away lesbians and single women because their children will not have a father or male role model. While the current law does not block such therapy, it is sometimes used to justify refusals.

This road appears to be getting broader and steeper!!

I wonder what the children win.

  3. Katherine says:

The children win a lifetime of wondering why Mum did such a thing. Deliberately creating children without fathers is morally wrong. Period.

All of this makes perfect sense in Tecworld. If gay is just as good as straight (or even better!), then we need to get rid of that nasty vestige of heterosexism, aka nature. It’s all there in Romans 1.18-32. Once homosexuality is embraced as a ‘good’ rather than a sin to be overcome or controlled, you have rebellion against nature and nature’s Lord.
The Gafcon bishops and all other orthoodx Christians understand this point all too clearly. Rowan Williams, for all his rebarbative prose, doesn’t.

children? children? why the heck should they get in the way of me and my rights….flush them out of wombs and plop them with the bodies of the useless old people we euthanised at the other end of life- for we are truly enlightened, inclusive and passionate about the rights of the individual…

What a sinful, arrogant and shocking society we have created. When children become a commodity for people to claim as a right – rather than a gift from God to be nurtured.

The events in Parliament here in Britain over the last few days have been truly depressing — and all the arguments have been utilitarian and along the lines that ‘there might be’ a breakthrough that could bring some nasty disease or ailment to an end. What this article from the Times does is to highlight how a whole variety of radical genders converge and that each challenges the very basis of what it means to be human, while there is no mention of being created in the image of God (or anyone else but ourselves, for that matter). I would commend this letter that appeared in the Times yesterday: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/letters/article3940340.ece
