Unanimous Resolutions of the Diocese of South Carolina Standing Committee

The following two resolutions were unanimously passed by the Standing Committee of South Carolina at our November, 2008 meeting:

1. Be it resolved that the Standing Committee of the Diocese of South Carolina does hereby subscribe to as a standard of faith the Jerusalem Declaration as set forth at the GAFCON conference and affirmed by the Archbishop of Canterbury and further affirms the reforming voice of the GAFCON movement within the Anglican Communion.

2. Be it resolved that the Standing Committee of the Diocese of South Carolina does not recognize the non-canonical deposition of the Right Reverend Robert Duncan and continues to recognize him as a bishop in Christ’s one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.

The Very Reverend John Burwell
President, Standing Committee of South Carolina

Good…now let’s here from the rest of the Communion Partners…if they can’t do what South Carolina has just done they have failed right out of the box…and will be of the same of little use as the Windsor Bishops were…meaning that the only game in town is Common Cause

My heart is all pitter-patter. The fastest growing diocese is also the the steadfastest.

Bravo, South Carolina! Way to go. Clear as can be.

    “Courage breeds courage.”

Now Albany (and other Communion Partners dioceses), go thou and do likewise!

Way to go, South Carolina! Now what about the rest of the “orthodox” dioceses???

I’m very proud of our Standing Committee! As a lay person I’ve been very concerned about how to consider the status of +Duncan (et al) because some felt he(they) “were not members of our Church”. I even wrote the Bishop and Canon Harmon about it. (note) neither of them answered, but no matter the STANDING COMMITTEE did, and in about 2 weeks from my query.

Thank You all for your service, and John Burwell+ especially for his leadrship on the matter.
    Blessings,

I can just imagine the reaction from Schori & Company! Look out, +Mark, you’re really in her sights now!

  8. Dan Crawford says:

Will South Carolin invite the (real, dully elected) Bishop of Pittsburgh to celebrate the Eucharist and preach in the diocese? That would give some meaning to resolution.

  9. Grandmother says:

Well Fr. Dan, as you know, that takes it out of the hands of the Standing Committee, and passes it to the Bishop. God only knows.

I have nothing but praise for the leadership of the Diocese of SC….

    God bless

  11. Scott K says:

Can someone remind us what Canterbury said about the Jerusalem Declaration? I remember him affirming some of it, but expressing grave concerns about other parts. Or am I remembering something else?

  12. Chris says:

I can think of a good number of SC parishes that would RELISH the opportunity to welcome +Duncan as celebrant. Frankly, he could spend the better part of a year traversing the diocese and delivering the Good Word. I think just one appearance at the Cathedral of Saint Luke and Saint Paul would suffice though……
