In Ohio Episcopal clergy await details on Vatican plan

The Rev. John Kimble, a retired Episcopal priest in Toledo, believes the Vatican is being deceptive with the proposal, calling it “a subtle attack on Anglicanism.”

“If they were really interested in Anglicanism and coming together, they need to acknowledge that we have women priests and people who are homosexuals,” he said. “What undergirds this statement is a subtle attempt to reinforce the biased, prejudicial, and sectarian stances” of the Catholic Church….

Father [Charles] Singler said the Vatican’s intent is to meet the spiritual needs of people in crisis, not to steal members from another Christian body. “It shows the church’s desire to provide a place for those who are trying to find a spiritual home. ”¦ It’s a way to provide an option for people trying to find some sense of stability and tradition,” he said.

  1. David Fischler says:

Rev. Kimble doesn’t seem to understand that the Vatican is interested in “coming together” with Anglicans who hold to historic orthodox Christianity, rather than the new religion that reigns in the halls of power in the Episcopal Church.

  2. Dan Crawford says:

“Subtle attack”? Wasn’t the English headline “Rome Parks Tanks On Rowan’s Lawn”?

As for the Vatican being “deceptive”, it is considerably less deceptive than Kimble’s Presiding Bishop and her episcopal allies, to say nothing of the occupant of the See of Caterbury.

While I am having some issues with what Rome is doing in this initiative, I don’t think they are at all being deceptive. I think, on the contrary, what they are doing and their motives are quite obvious for all to see.

…”and sectarian stances” of the Catholic Church….”

All churches have sectarian stances, it is their very nature.
When they cease to have sectarian stances they cease to be a church and become a club with varying membership requirements.

  5. Grandmother says:

Did it ever occur to anyone that the Holy Father’s “motives” might be that he is concerned for the souls who are being lost, and the children that are being taught Apostasy?

Deluded perhaps, as some think, at least he’s doing something to assist Christians who prefer cathology to have somewhere to go, and not hear or teach the “new thing”.
I know, Rome is wrong, Methodists are wrong, Presbys are wrong.
Well, its going to be interesting at judgement day. We’ll probably find out EVERYONE is wrong. God’s grace will have to suffice after all.

#2 Dan–I’m with you–I didn’t find it even slightly subtle. #5 Grandma–You have nailed the theological nail right on the theological head.

  7. Already left says:

If I invite your child to come to my house to place with my child, my house rules are inforced, they do not change because of who is in the house.

Why should Rome change its (God’s) rules/laws for Episcopalians who have different ones?

  8. TridentineVirginian says:

Aww, looks like Kimble won’t be coming over. *sniff*

#2 Thinking the same exact thing. He is either the king of understatement or has no appreciation for strategy.
