Cardinal George Responds to Vatican Announcement on Anglican Groups Entering Catholic Church

This step by the Holy See is in response to a number of requests received in Rome from groups of Anglicans seeking corporate reunion. The application of the new Provision recognizes the desire of some Anglicans (Episcopalians) to live the Catholic faith in full, visible communion with the See of Peter, while at the same time retaining some elements of their traditions of liturgy, spirituality and ecclesial life which are consistent with the Catholic faith.

Gee…sounds like someone wants in on the offer. Why can’t this be reported by the “objective” main line media sources? Why are they afraid since they obviously have no dog in this hunt?

Yes, this is a very objective, balanced statement of the facts. It also indicates that the whole US Conference of Catholic Bishops, and not just Cardinal George in Chicago, will seek to implement and not block this remarkable new initiative. I appreciate the calm tone of this brief public statement. There’s no triumphalism here, but also none of the alarm and wild speculation that has abounded on all sides since the announcement of the new provision was made.

A fine statement, by a great Christian leader. Alas, while Cardinal George is admirable in every way, he has no equal in TEC. (Not even +Mark Lawrence. After all, the Archdiocese of Chicago is larger than the entire Episcopal denomination).
