Telegraph–First partnered lesbian bishop to be consecrated by Anglican church in America

The Rev Mary Glasspool will become Assistant Bishop of Los Angeles in a “grand event” taking place at a 13,500-seat arena on the Californian coast.

Her appointment is being made despite warnings from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, about the “serious questions” it will raise for the 80 million-strong Anglican Communion.

It is being viewed by traditionalists as another “provocative” move by the ultra-liberal Episcopal Church of the USA in “defiance” of pleas not to go against tradition and Scripture by ordaining homosexual bishops.

As a (Roman) Catholic one doesn’t know whether to laugh at the sheer absurdity of what is transpiring in Los Angeles or cry at the moral destruction of a once great Christian Church.
But what is certain is that the Episcopal Church will probably gain membership from those who will want to further secularize and keep jettisoning anything resembling Christian doctrine and morality.
While in the meantime other churches (probably mostly the RCC) will gain members who will help those churches stand up to the secular onslaught.

Please pray for the clergy and people of Los Angeles, especially for the spiritual and emotional strengthening of those faithful to the Word.

Love the assertion of the “Anglican” part. The franchise is closing the dealerships at an astounding rate and merging those that remain whilst keeping on life support the aging congregations.

Then, again, the whole question of whether the EcUSA/TEc is “Anglican” is moot when (at last count before today) more provinces were “out of communion” or “in impaired communion” than were “in communion” with this zeitgeistian organization.

    Oh dear oh dear . . .

A 13,500 seat venue — and 3000 people showed up.

No wonder Bruno got nervous and kept pushing that anybody could show up with no ticket.

    Heh.
