RNS: Episcopalians to Sell California Monastery After Fire

It was a beautiful monastery where I spent many hours receiving spiritual direction. I’m sad to hear it.

It was a fabulous place. I wonder what happened to their incomparable collection of 19th and early 20th century Navajo chief’s blankets? That was the first thing I thought when I heard of the fire.

It’s sad. I was very nicely influenced by a couple of OHC monks in my high school years. Solid guys. I think I read that OHC is down to 40 brothers now, total?

#3, OHC has several younger brothers at West Park and they just renovated the buildings there. They also still have the monastery in Toronto and in South Africa. The CA fire was horrible. But I believe they have recovered nicely from it. My review of the quarterly newsletter indicates they are doing ok. They can always use more money, but their occupancy rate is pretty good for planned and individual retreats.
