The “compassionate release” of a convicted PanAm bomber in 2009 was an affront to justice and to the families of the 270 people who died in Lockerbie, Scotland, on Dec. 21, 1988. It looks even worse given the perspective that the following year has provided….
BP wanted an oil deal with Libya. The PanAm bomber gets released. BP gets its deal. BP funds Obama campaign. Gulf oil spill occurs. President Obama waits more than 30 days to engage the issue.

Remember N.T. Wright’s Washington Post column about this a year ago? I wonder if he is still thinking America over-reacted? Does he still feel Guantanamo and Abu Graib stripped away America’s moral authority to comment on the release of this murderer? Does he still feel we are reacting in a “knee-jerk” fashion? In light of the revelations about BP, has he made up his mind to “abominate” the release, as he suggested he would? He is careful to alternate his strident comments with qualifiers–Maya Angelou coined the phrase “blow, bite, blow” for this kind of criticism–but, I wonder if he is ready to retract some of his comments?
