Priests and worshippers from around 20 Church of England parishes converted to Catholicism on Saturday at a ceremony in Westminster Cathedral.
Three former bishops were among those confirmed at the service, which saw the first wave of Anglicans defecting to Rome to join the Ordinariate.
The Pope introduced the structure in 2009 to welcome disillusioned Anglicans into the Catholic fold after secret meetings were held at the Vatican with Church of England bishops, as The Sunday Telegraph revealed a year earlier.
Anglicanism (or at least the so called Continuum) gets Addison Hart and Rome gets a sizable chunk of what is left of the Anglo-Catholic movement. Why does it seem like Rome keeps coming out ahead in these exchanges? Hmmmm
I cannot understand why people who have desired to be RC and have found the doctrinal issues compatible with their own belief have waited for this to cross over; on the contranegative, I cannot understand why someone who hasn’t desired to be RC and/or has trouble with the doctrinal issues would cross over. I wish all of them well as my brothers and sisters in Christ – and pray they will bring the Good News to many. I am, however, perplexed.
One wishes them well.
The grass in the fields of Anglicanism is brown. The grass in the fields of Rome is merely a different shade of brown, perhaps spray-painted green in places to make it look appealing from afar.
All of Christianity must learn to work together to tend the fields, so that they might be restored. Such labors properly begin at the Lord’s Table – but, that’s where the division (dare I say, enmity?) is the most perceptible.
Luke 17:32. Godspeed. Don’t look back.
Taking Ralph’s analogy, this would not be happening except that Anglican leaders have left the fields of the Lord and are tending other fields.
#4 Nikolaus – you are correct, except I would amend your sentence to say “some Anglican leaders have left the fields of the Lord and are tending other fields.” There are many who labor within the Lord’s fields and are helping to plant a wonderful crop – though they are fewer and fewer within TEC and ACC.
