The Silent No More coalition consists of the Anglican Communion, Lambeth Palace, Tearfund, Christian Aid and Restored.
Its formation coincides with the launch of the Silent No More report documenting the role of the church in response to sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Liberia.
The report was launched today at Lambeth Palace, the official residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, as the coalition’s first step towards addressing the silence, pain and stigma faced by survivors of sexual violence.
It’s not possible to disagree with the Cause. Who can oppose supporting victims of sexual violence? Yet every time I read a story like this, it strikes me that the cause involved is ‘Progressive-safe.’ In other words, it’s not the kind of cause that would earn anyone the disapproval of either the NY Times or the BBC. The victims fit within the progressive definition of victimhood. The villains fit within the progressive definition of villainy. It’s as if these organizations are seeking to purchase credits from the secular culture to offset their more conservative aspects. I would be more impressed if I saw one of these groups also take a public stand against (say) the ongoing eradication of Downs Syndrome children by means of abortion.

Wasn’t the “Silent No More” campaign started by Anglicans for Life, highlighting stories of women (and men) who have chosen abortion and repented?
