Old age has crept up on St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Holmedale.
Now 112 years old, the petite church building, with seating for 200, will close its doors -at least to congregants of the Anglican faith -after a special May 8 service that honours its past.
Audrey Elcomb, 89, plans to have a little cry.
“When we have that service and I know it’s the end, well, I better bring a lot of Kleenex.”
[blockquote] “It’s not that the congregation can’t keep going financially, but the dwindling membership -mainly of elderly people -has taken its toll. “One year we had so many deaths of our members, it was really noticeable,” says Elcomb. “As the months went by, we knew unless something happened we would have to close. We’re down to ten families and ten families can’t keep the church going.”” [/blockquote]
Yet again, we see the wages of liberalism being paid. If you take the soul out of Christianity as the leadership of ACiC has done, then the people drift away and the churches die.
If other congregations want to avoid a similar fate, then they have to take their collective heads out of the sand and really *think* about the challenge posed to the church today by liberalism. If they try to sit on the fence, they will go the same way as this congregation.
