Roman Catholics Warn of National Conflict over Same Sex Marriage

The Obama Administration’s fight against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage as between one man and one woman, will undermine marriage and create a serious breach of Church-State relations, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, wrote in a September 20 letter to President Barack Obama, The Administration’s assault on DOMA, Archbishop Dolan said, will “precipitate a national conflict between Church and State of enormous proportions and to the detriment of both institutions.”

What I find most galling about mainstream media news coverage of the Obama Admin is that you will very rarely hear it described as liberal, let alone radical (which it is) on many issues like this one. The President is even repeatedly trashing the U.S. Constitution in the process. Not defending DOMA- as he is mandated to do under the Constitution– is a pure radical, dictatorial act.

The current occupant at 1600 has done more since taking office to damage race relatins than anyone since the Klan. He is not a uniter, he is a divider. His constant class warfare shows his true socialist colours. He has entered into a conspiracy with the attorney general to knowingly fail to uphold the law of the land. The last time I checked, this is the type of thing that speaks so directly to having a seperation between the three branches of government. Our dictator wanna-be seems to think that he is so superior to the rest of us and not bound by any law unless he “likes” it. When was the last time you saw a situation come up like the New Black Panther Party where the government through the department of justice dismissed a suit after the court has disposed of the matter? Do you think race just “might” have some bearing on this? Obama has proven that he does not have the best interests of this country at heart. He is narcisistic, arrogant, rude, and has proven that he is in way over his head. The Presidency is not somewhere to have on the job training. Obama has spit in the face of any Christian from his inauguration until now. He is not unintelligent, but he is so far out of touch that he hasn’t a clue.

DOMA was a law passed by large majorities in the House and Senate
of the of the U.S. Congress during the Clinton administration.
By administrative actions of the Justice Department, that law is now
under attack. Why is there such a strong push to homosexualize
U.S. society ? If a homeowner places a sign on their front lawn
stating their opposition to gay marriage, will they be charged with
a “hate crime” or some similar thoughtcrime ?

There is a similar attack being made by the DOJ on U.S. border
states which seek to uphold and enforce immigration laws. Clearly
and unambiguously, something is seriously amiss in this country.
It is as though a low-grade war is being made against the laws
of the land and a psych war is being waged to impugn the basic
decency and integrity of the American people.

Although I usually am not a fan of the heated rhetoric that is all too common in the anti-Obama crowd, in this case I am compelled to agree with the above comments at least with respect to DOMA. Like it or not (I don’t. It’s blatantly unconstitutional.), it’s the law of the land. Refusing to defend it in court is a very serious departure from past precedent. At the very least it creates a dangerous precedent that will have consequences down the road.

In fairness this is simply the latest and hardly the most egregious of many acts by presidents of both parties that are aimed at unconstitutionally aggrandizing the powers of the Executive over the Legislative branch of the government. It needs to stop. Sadly it is unlikely to do so because whichever party is in the White House usually has enough support in Congress to squelch any serious response.

    Obama is not clueless, Wormwood.

I’m trying to find the T19 thread from a few years ago when the Bush administration refused to enforce the Clean Air Act and a bunch of posters chimed in about the rampant executive and the President’s constitutional duty to enforce even the laws with which he disagreed.

    Oh, right. There wasn’t one.

You will find that right next to the discussion about Bush’s use of “signing statements” to declare his refusal to obey various laws and parts of laws. He should have been impeached on the spot.
