Indicating support for same-sex couples, the former Bishop of Oxford, Lord Harries of Pentregarth, said that it was still not too late for the Church to move ahead with blessing civil partnerships.
“The Churches have only themselves to blame for their current predicament, in which they face a major rewriting of the law on marriage,” he said.
“Instead of at first opposing civil partnerships, and then only accepting them grudgingly with gritted teeth, they should have welcomed them warmly from the first and immediately proposed services of commitment and blessing in church. They should do this even now.”

Good point. Everything would be better if only the churches had bowed more deeply before the secular culture.
With bishops like this, I wonder why the athists bother attacking religion.
Is this the same Bishop Harries who recommended that Jeffrey Johns be made a bishop ?
Typical effete non-Biblical twaddle
I may not have a dog in this fight, since I’m not a member of the Church of England, but it seems to me that Bishop Harries has forgotten……or is ignoring……the vows which he made at his ordination and consecration as a bishop; something about “defending the faith” and “marriage is ordained by God to be betwixt one man and one woman, thus signifying the relationship betwixt God and His Church.” I believe the language is quite clear on these subjects.
Yes, the only reason the victim is bruised and battered is because she fought back. If she had only meekly acquiesced to the cultures’ perversity, she’d be just fine.
