Historic Episcopal Diocese of Florida Parish in Hibernia Suddenly Closes

It’s a dramatic sight at one of the United States’ historic landmarks. St Margaret’s Episcopal Church is closed on a Sunday, not a person in sight.

The church dates back to the 1800s and this was one of the oldest wooden church still in operation in America. Not anymore, as the Episcopal Diocese of Florida decided to shut it down.

Last Sunday was the final day for services at the church in Hibernia.

Read it all.

In fact the article is wildly inaccurate. They may have been worshipping in the old church in the end because they all fit after the collapse, but in 2005 they built a much bigger church and parish hall.

Hmm. According to the ACNA website, there are 11 Anglican congregations within 25 miles of the closed TEC church. Betcha that’s where the faithful went!

As for the St Margaret’s building, maybe some twee antique or art and frame shop will occupy it.

As the above comments suggest, there must be more to this item. The Red Book lists tthe church with 65 seats. The ASA in 2005 was 230 so that would mean 4 services each Sunday. Rather strange that they did not use new sanctuary. An they still had Plate & Pledge of $250K in 2010. A most rapid demise for a parish that had 450 Members in 2006. Statmann

I’ve been to that church or at least we toured the grounds and I do remember a newer church on site.
