Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has “created confusion” with regard to the Church’s stance against abortion, says the bishop of Fargo.
Bishop Samuel Aquila said this in a the latest in a series of episcopal statements that have responded to comments made by Pelosi during an interview Sunday on NBC-TV’s “Meet the Press.”
Pelosi, when asked to comment on when life begins, said that as a Catholic, she had studied the issue for “a long time” and that “the doctors of the Church have not been able to make that definition.”
Cardinal Justin Rigali, chairman of the U. Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and Bishop William Lori, chairman of the Committee on Doctrine, said in a statement Monday that her answer “misrepresented the history and nature of the authentic teaching of the Catholic Church against abortion.”
The prelates noted that since the first century the Church has “affirmed the moral evil of every abortion.”
Next time she goes to Mass if the priest doesn’t give her communion I’m sure the presiding bishop will tell her to come over they welcome everyone.
Even though she is a life-long Catholic, perhaps Ms. Pelosi is not aware that she is not at liberty to decide Catholic doctrine and teaching. Perhaps Augustine and other Doctors of the Church could not come to a conclusion but certainly Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI have. Her “studies” are severely lacking.
Ms. Pelosi’s god is the State.
Jeffersonian – Peolisi only believes in the State if the State is run by those on the political left. She would not recognize the authority of a state to restrict abortion.

Actually, St. Augustine was only speculating on the development of the unborn child; the intrinsic evil of abortion was already established as far back as the Didiche of the 1st century.
She evidently mixes up “ensoulment” with “human”.
Ms Pelosi must have gone to an Episcopal theology school, much like the one the presiding Bishop ran, in which we create our theology, deities and moralities to fit the mood of the day. To bad the Catholic Church isn’t buying it!!!
To clarify, she evidently confuses ensoulment with the time that life actually begins. I realize that what I am trying to say is still not well stated. Thx.
