RNS: Catholics Try to Block Eucharist Desecration Videos

Roman Catholics in North America and Britain are calling for a series of YouTube videos showing a Canadian teenager destroying Communion hosts to be removed from the Internet.

The Quebec teenager named Dominique, who tags himself “fsmdude,” has posted more than 40 videos featuring him desecrating the host, the small circular wafer that Catholics ingest during Eucharist service.

Read it all.

I’m willing to bet you that 99% of the people who now know about this do so because of the objections of Bill Donohue et al. It’s like I say to my kids “This person is trying to get a rise out of you. When you react the way they’re hoping you will, you’re giving them power over you. Drive them crazy — ignore them.”

I’m surprised that Dominique hasn’t been hauled before the Canadian Kangaroo Court – the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

Not that he should be – it’s a sham procedure and institution – but it’s weird how selective they appear to be. I guess Catholics don’t have rights in Canada? Or are they not human in Canada?

How would YouTube handle 40 videos of someone desecrating a Koran?

#3, they’d take them down. I think they have taken down anti-Islamist videos which were far less offensive.

I have very mixed feelings about this. I’m opposed to “hate crime” legislation and restrictions on free speech except in very limited circumstances. I think Catholic Mom #1 probably has it right. Besides, how do we know that what this kid is abusing are actually consecrated hosts? If he’s not threatening Catholics or churches with violence, then he should be ignored or criticized, not censored.

In other news: pornographers try to ban christians from destroying blue films.

    Yawn.

  6. Occasional Christian says:

If the host has been blessed, it is sacrilegious but if not it just another bag of cookies. It is proper procedure for the priest to ensure unused consecrated host is consumed at the end of the Eucharist. Making a big scene only empowers them, forgive instead, like we’ve been told to.

Yes, take them down. Everything except my stuff!

Our judgement is rather insignificant compared to the judgement of Christ when He will cull the goats from His sheep. Pray for this poor misguided soul
