Fifty percent (50%) of U.S. voters say the final economic recovery plan that emerges from Congress is at least somewhat likely to make things worse rather than better, but 39% say such an outcome is not likely (see crosstabs).
Twenty-seven percent (27%) say the final legislation is Very Likely to make things worse, while just seven percent (7%) say it’s Not at All Likely to have that effect, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey
Support for the legislation has been slipping over the past two weeks and a plurality now oppose it.
Maggie Gallagher points out that the “stimulus” package will mostly be spent in 2010.
This line stood out to me;
“Men are a bit more skeptical than women and voters over 40 more concerned than younger adults. ”
I doubt that I should comment as I usually get more flame than thought.
otherwise, it is my theory that over 50% of the people have absolutely no idea what is in the porkulous package.
Don
Dan,
No flame here. Other than the ‘right-wing kook’ radio hosts, no one is bothering to tell anyone what is in the package. And most people who get their news do so from the morning paper or the evening news and then don’t think about it again.
Those of us who KNOW don’t like it and are emailing out congressional representatives to vote against it.
As I asked in another blog – what does the US get in return? In the great depression of the late 20’s and early 30’s we at least got some needed big repair jobs done in exchange for the handouts and families got food and shelter.
There is a reason that Congress had lower approval ratings than President Bush.
For the roughly 65 million that voted for Obama and kept the Democrat controlled congress…enjoy the new 5 year plan. When the hyperinflation hits, don’t say you weren’t warned.
Harvey, this plan was discussed on Focus On The Family yesterday, maybe today, too. Not sure. Only seven percent of the total hundreds of billions are earmarked for infrastructure, roads, bridges, etc. Acorn is going to get hundreds of millions, as well as Hollywood and Planned Parenthood. FOTF has a link on their web site where the money is supposed to go. This is all about Pork and political paybacks. They are intent altering the social stance of government in America to left-wing liberalism. Glad I’m old, but feel sorry for my children and grandchildren, who will be paying for this for the rest of their lives.
The recession during Reagan’s early was a lot worse than this and there was no bailout. I suspect this is being engineered to get folks to accept more govt interference (control) of their lives and livelihood. Obama is beginning to look more like Pres. Carter every day. If we truly expect Congress to solve this people need to reminded that most no next nothing about business or managing a payroll, much less pay their taxes. I cite Daschle and Rangle as prime examples. In short, we’re in for a bumpy ride.
To add to Maggie Gallagher. This ain’t “too little, too late.” It’s “too much, too late.”
CORRECTION: …they (Congress) know next to nothing…
Not that I was idealistic to begin with, but I have to admit I am becoming cynical about the “change you can believe in” slogan. With the Daschle debacle and this “stimulus” bill which appears to be the repository of everybody’s pet projects, I think the President needs to refocus because 2010 is not as far away as he thinks.
