More than once I have used Canon Robinson’s description of the liturgy as the stretcher which carries us into the presence of the Lord, with reference to the man lowered by his 4 friends through the roof. It carries us in where we are healed/forgiven, then we take up our bed and go home. Simple, folksy and right to the point. Peace be unto him.
