I found the basic thrust of his presentation to be very helpful and challenging to how we frame the discussion about homosexuality. I think he has it right that the idea of sexual orientation is irrelevent in the biblical perspective. It is our orientation toward God that matters.
Where I have trouble following him is how much he hangs on Ephesians 5:21-33. Paul certainly makes a Christological connection for the marital relationship. Where I think he overstep the passage is that he wants to use the passage to say that the relationship between Christ and the Church defines marriage. But in fact Paul is using it the other way: “This is a great mystery, and I am applying it to Christ and the Church.” Paul is assuming an understanding of marriage that comes from the beginning, from the creation stories. It is there that we can learn God’s basic intent of the fundamental relationship between the sexes. Paul is putting some Christological icing on the cake.
I cannot get the video. What did he say? Larry
