British Bishop calls for marriage to be defined as between ”˜a man and a woman’

The Anglican Bishop of Rochester has called on the British Government to agree that marriage between men and women is the basis of society.

Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali raised the issue during a discussion of same-sex relationships in the House of Lords.

Liberal Democrat Lord Lester of Herne Hill, a leading light in the campaign to introduce civil partnerships in the UK, had questioned the Government’s contention, in a case before the European Court of Human Rights, that same-sex relationships “fall outside the ambit of family life”.

  1. Jeffersonian says:

++Nazir-Ali is completely out of touch with modern mores, divorced from the zeitgeist, out of step politically and utterly bound by a 2,000 year-old religious text.

Which is precisely why he should be Archbishop of Canterbury.

  2. Henry Greville says:

As I have written here before, the choice for Canterbury should have been Nazir-Ali all along.

  3. Spiro says:

    Henry and Jeffersonian,
The powers that be are not interested in a giving the Church an Archbishop of Canterbury that would further the expanse of God’s Kingdom; they are interested in the furtherance of the political correctness and the kingdom of this world.

May God bless ++Nazir Ali and other faithful Christians in purple. The Lord knows His sheep and the sheep know the voice of the Master. As for those serving the gods of this world, their reward is here on earth, and they are already getting more than plenty of the rewards – in the form of accolades from their acolytes in the press and high places.

I wish John Sentamu is as good a foreign-born bishop as Michael Nazir-Ali is.
May the Lord raise up more ++Michaels than ++Johns for his Church in the UK and beyond.

If ++Nazir Ali keeps at it he’s going to end up like his predecessor in 1535.
