Sunday Telegraph–Church set for new row over Same Sex Partenred clergy

Leading conservative clergy have declared their support for a motion at this week’s General Synod which would ally the Church with the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA).

This was formed in opposition to the consecration of Gene Robinson, the first openly homosexual bishop, and the actions of liberals in the Episcopal Church of the US, which is the official Anglican body.

It is my understanding that the ACNA is already in communion with the Church of Ireland.

This is good publicity, which in turn will generate public discussion.

The best result at Synod would be for the Bishop’s amendment to be defeated, and Lorna Ashworth’s motion passed. But even if the Liberals win this one (either by defeating the motion or passing the amendment) it is important that the issue be discussed, in and out of Synod. The orthodox won’t be giving up on this one – it will be raised at every opportunity until it passes, so the more public discussion that is generated, the better.

Also good to see +Reade and +Benn stating public opposition to the HOB amendment.
