The sheer scale of our public debt, which hit £1trillion yesterday, is the greatest moral scandal facing Britain today.
If we can’t get the deficit under control and begin paying back this debt, we will be mortgaging the futures of our children and grandchildren.

I suppose the bishops opposing Ld Carey’s viewpoint are of the opinion that those sections of the Bible can be excised/subject to re-interpretation to fit the times/etc, along with Biblical teachings concerning morality in general.
Does not 2 Thessalonians 3:2 say ” if a man WILL not work,he shall not eat”? Is this not different from ‘if he does not work’? Sadly many people have the will to work, but either cannot find it, or due to physical or mental handicap are unable to work.
