(BP) California's Governor Jerry Brown vetoes egg donor bill

In rejecting the bill Aug. 13, Brown, a Democrat, expressed concerns about the potential risks to women who undergo invasive techniques for their eggs to be harvested.

“Not everything in life is for sale nor should it be,” Brown said in his veto message.

“In medical procedures of this kind, genuinely informed consent is difficult because the long-term risks are not adequately known,” he wrote. “Putting thousands of dollars on the table only compounds the problem.”

One comment on “(BP) California's Governor Jerry Brown vetoes egg donor bill

  1. Uh Clint says:

This is clearly sexism at its worst. Men can donate sperm with virtually no restrictions, but women are being singled out for special treatment if they attempt to do the same thing – donating eggs, the “2nd half” of the fertilization equation.

With all the hue and cry about women having control over their bodies with regard to abortion, surely donation of eggs should be a “no-brainer” insofar as allowing women to do whatever they want. Placing restrictions or conditions on egg donations constitutes a bias against women in reproductive donation, and should be dealt with severely by women’s rights advocates.

(Lest anyone misunderstand – the above is meant to be satire/sarcasm. It’s a play on how abortion rights activists proclaim that women should have absolute control over their reproductive systems, yet here Gov. Brown [a Liberal Democrat] is denying them those rights.)
