Michael Coren on the Bede Parry Affair–Some more hypocrisy and Catholic-bashing

Rejected by the Roman Catholic Church, in 2004 he became an …Episcopal] priest, even after informing the then bishop of Nevada, Katharine Jefferts Schori, that he had sexually transgressed just a few years earlier. She was also told by his former monastery about his sordid past and given highly damaging psychological records. Surprise, surprise. In July this year he resigned from his post and is currently facing criminal charges.

But here is where it all becomes somewhat Kafkaesque. Rather than campaigning against Jefferts Schori and demanding to know why she accepted into ordination a man with such a grotesque record ”” reports that suggested he was likely to reoffend ”” the usual anti-Catholic brigade have set up shop locally to attack the Catholic bishop and the Catholic Church.

Ms. Jefferts Schori, of course, is now the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church of the United States, or in other words the head of the American version of the Anglican communion. She is also a roaring liberal, a darling of the left, the gay community and those who believe Catholicism to be reactionary, ultra-orthodox and on the wrong side of history.

Read it all.

    KJS statement from 11/17:
“Since that time, as far as I am aware, he has served faithfully and effectively as a minister of the gospel and priest of this Church.”

I agree with Mr Coren; KJS is all of these……and more. As a rule, I don’t agree with Catholic-bashing, but if there IS any bashing to be done, I reserve that for the perpetrators who started this mess in the first place. And it’s for them, and them alone.

  3. C. Wingate says:

One does wish however that the CR could hire reporters and editors who are aware of the correct name of our church and the correct titles of its officers.

  4. Cennydd13 says:

Some may decide not to use the correct names and titles out of their convictions rather than ignorance. I respect that.

It is intriguing – even puzzling – that the Teflon PB isn’t to be held accountable and all the attention is being focused on the RCs. Strange. If she had paid attention and read her mail, she might not have had this problem. On the other hand . . .

  6. Cennydd13 says:

Who says she reads her mail? That’s why she has an office staff; they shield her from this kind of stuff! It also explains why no one will ever get an answer from her, except through her lackeys and David Booth Beers, Esq.

  7. Teatime2 says:

I disagree that she’s the “darling” of anyone outside of a small minority of hairy lefties in TEC. After all, she’s their mouthpiece. But she has no other skills that are especially impressive and she can be rather off-putting. Are the GLBTs flocking to TEC parishes because of her efforts? Nope.

And, c’mon. This sort of argument goes over just as well as it does when a couple of people behaving badly complain about the other not getting enough punishment/criticism. You want to ask them if they have any shame.
